In 1982, a career in the life insurance profession could not be assured. It had been well documented that the success rate in such a rewarding field was around 12 percent. A field of endeavor where independence and unlimited income made the barriers to success worth the effort.
Early on in my career I had learned that most small businesses fail because they had too little fellowship with like-minded professionals. I had to find a group of like-minded professionals gathering to share ideas on “how to succeed.” At that time, NAIFA was the National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU). This proved to be invaluable to personal and professional development, namely: the monthly luncheons, magazine and conventions. The relationship-building, the finding of mentors and continuing education. Priceless!
Maybe more importantly than sharing success, we all shared our struggles, failures and loss. NAIFA can prop you up!
Our son is in the family business now. We consider our NAIFA membership to be an asset rather than an annual expense. The folks at NAIFA-PAC do a great job keeping us informed, educating the Legislators and advocating for our clients financial security.
Our Communities and our Society are better because of NALU/NAIFA. Happy 125th!
